| Duties: | Luna's Optical Systems Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong background in mechanical and some electrical design who will serve as a design and research engineer on a number of R&D projects. Current projects include high-temperature optic sensor system development, imaging, photonic crystal waveguides, nano-optics, and bio-optics. Successful candidate will be a motivated, organized, quick-learning individual with very good verbal/written communication skills and good attention to detail. |
| Qualifications: | Required:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Electrical Engineering with a focus in electro-mechanical modeling, design, and hands on experimentation, or related field
- Use of 3-D mechanical design software also required (Solidworks preferred)
Desired:
- Fabrication skills (TIG, MIG, rapid prototyping, lathe, mill, CNC).
- Optics experience (bulk optics, fiber optics, and electro-optics).
- Desired areas of technical expertise include but are not limited to: heat transfer, mechanical design, structures, Solidworks, COSMOS (or ANSYS), CNC, Matlab, Mathematica, Labview, C, C++, algorithm development, statistical design of experiments, practical experimental design and set-up, and data processing.
Due to the nature of our work in the government contract research area, U.S Citizenship is required.
