Performs strategic analysis and design of UNIX server infrastructure and makes recommendations on improvements and/or new systems required to meet business needs and future capacity. Also, recommends changes to Advance architecture as it applies to technology driven projects.
Participate in the evaluation, purchase, and implementation of hardware and software using proven technologies such as Micro-partitioning, adapter virtualization, VMWare, RAID, SAN, clustering, load balancing and redundant system designs in an effort to deliver highly available multi-tier applications.
Serve as technical resource to business analysts, solutions development and other groups responsible for application development standards, system design and integration.
Performs software installations and upgrades to UNIX based servers as well as maintains existing systems in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.
Performs engineering tasks related to managing enterprise UNIX infrastructure for corporate and remote systems in a large scale environment.
Maintains professional knowledge of AIX 5L, Redhat Linux Enterprise Edition, VMWare ESX and Windows Server 2003 required for the administration and support of a large scale environment.
Complete understanding of logical partitions (LPARs) and server virtualization (VIO) on AIX and x 86 infrastructures.
May be asked to lead infrastructure projects for procurement and implementation of new systems and/or technologies while acting as project manager using Advances' PMBOK. Including; scheduling, coordination, tracking deliverables; conducting project reviews, implementation and support (including evenings and weekends), user acceptance testing and issue resolution. Individual also will be expected to document and discuss lessons learned from previous implementations and update implementation plans to address documented issues.
Prepares and maintains professional documentation of server configuration(s), application configuration(s), and network configuration(s) as they relate to server infrastructure, high availability, business continuance and other areas as requested.
Lead the coordination of activities between multiple disciplines within MIS and vendors on both technical and non-technical issues pertaining to computer system hardware and software, network infrastructure, peripheral evaluation and integration.
Responsible for maintenance and enhancements of existing UNIX servers, (AIX, Redhat, Suse, HP-UP) and related utilities. Ensure systems remain at operational excellence during infrastructure improvements (hardware/software upgrades, server migrations/consolidations, application deployment, etc).
Engineer solutions, related to messaging, that support and enhance Advances business operations with guidance from Senior Engineers, Enterprise Architects and Technical Management. Solutions will be manageable, scalable and security conscience.
Provide 1st level technical support to IT Managers, Application Development Teams, DC Systems Managers and Information Security as requested.
Participates in regular on call rotation, providing 24*7 support meeting business SLAs.
Understand, embrace and comply with desktop and server security standards including Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI and VISA.
Adheres to applicable CMMI and Change Mgmt policies & procedures, both written & verbal.
Establish & develop working knowledge in other areas as requested. Areas might include: messaging, application server, data retention (TSM backups) technologies.
Build team synergies when working with other engineers supporting them to achieve excellence in their fields of interest and responsibility.
| | Duties: | Responsible for enterprise wide UNIX server infrastructure across distributed hardware including; IBM pSeries and Intel servers. Duties include; provisioning, implementation / integration, standards / governance, patch mgmt, monitoring, support, root cause analysis and performance tuning.
Provides customer focused support of all UNIX servers environments, PROD, QA, Integration and development.
Evaluates and applies software upgrades and support packs as required to solve production problems and/or ensure compliance and system integrity.
Consults with senior engineers while working with applications teams to troubleshoot complex problems, providing root cause analysis and remediation to mitigate future risk.
Responsible for defining and maintaining CMMI policies and procedures for administration and application integration as they apply to server infrastructure technologies.
Responsible for governance of PCI, VISA and Security policies as they apply to server infrastructure technologies and operating systems.
| | Qualifications: | Qualifications:
Four-year college degree (BS) in Computer Science or related Engineering degree.
Four to Seven years progressive IT experience including: 4+ years experience in AIX administration, 1+ years experience in a high level programming language. Must be in one of the following: C, C++ or Java languages.
4+ years of operational support in Information Technology with experience in one or more of the following areas: on call production support, execution of multiple concurrent projects, experience in leading project teams meeting goals that included large system implementations.
Strong working knowledge of Redhat Linux (AS/ES)
Experience automating activities using Perl and Shell scripting languages
Excellent analytical / troubleshooting skills
Strong communications and organizational skills
Ability to provide 7x24 rotating on-call support
Ability to relocate to Roanoke, VA.
Ability to work outside normal 8 to 5 office hours including weekends as required
Proven ability to implement IT solutions that support new applications and business integration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Medium to large scale retail environment experience ( > 1000 retail locations)
Experience with Nagios
Experience with Tivoli Storage Manager
Masters degree in computer science or information technology field of study
7 + years in an information technology related position(s)
Capacity planning, Application stacking and HA environments preferred
Demonstrable experience designing solutions for applications with n-Tier architectures and GRID
Technical Requirements
Mastery in at least three of the following technical areas with basic understanding in others;

Redhat v. 4.x, 5.x Enterprise Editions (AS/ES) Administration and Support
Shell scripting (KORN, BASH, PERL)
Structured programming language (C, C++, Java)
Tivoli Storage Manager V.4
